Wigmen Hammered by Hollinshead, Drop Game 1 to Kumuls
|
The Lae Kumuls started the League Cup in style today, winning on the road against the Port Moresby Wigmen at Ela Beach Coliseum by a score of 4-3 to take an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-5 series. Kumuls catcher Nick Hollinshead was named player of the game after he was 2-4 with 2 home runs.
The most crucial at-bat for Lae came in the top of the ninth inning. That's when Hollinshead stroked a 1-2 fastball to left for a solo home run, putting Lae up, 4-3.
Wigmen manager Geoff Matt did not take questions after the game, telling assembled reporters that he would hold a press conference "if and when we win the Maui Shield."
Game 2 is scheduled for Saturday, October 5th, 2013 at Ela Beach Coliseum. The scheduled starters for the game are Takashi Yamaguchi for Lae and Nicholas Napa for Port Moresby.
