The Papeete Black Pearls had to overcome a fine effort from Samoa pitcher Peter Kavanamur to win, 3-2, at Ballpark of Samoa. Kavanamur went 7 innings and allowed no runs. The winner in relief was Jean Song. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2.1 innings. He now owns a record of 3-0. The second-place Black Pearls have won 5 consecutive games.
Papeete used the timely hitting of Sebastien Jackson to seize the win. The pinch hitter stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Black Pearls on top, 3-2. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.
"We've got to get out of this funk," said Samoa manager Shaun Young.
