Behind an impressive start by Andrew Bainivalu, Lae beat Vanuatu, 4-2. David Smith earned his 16th save in 17 chances. The Vulcans have now dropped 5 straight.
Lae used a clutch hit from Adam Maori to get the win. The designated hitter drilled a 3-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to put the Kumuls ahead, 3-2. It was his only hit in 2 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"Say want you want about this team, they play nine innings hard," said Lae manager Adam Brisske.
