Coalition Beat Hellions, 7-4
|
The Chi-town Coalition topped the Harlem Hellions, 7-4, in Canis League action at Coalition Field. The standout performance belonged to Chi-town pitcher and Corvallis, Oregon, native Vernon García. García, now 2-1, was the winner. In 8.2 innings, he gave up 9 hits, while striking out 9, walking 2, and allowing 4 runs. Juan Sánchez nailed down his 2nd save.
The Coalition got a big at-bat from center fielder Jim L Hickman. For the game, Hickman went 1 for 4 with a home run, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the first, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a 3-run home run. His 5th home run of the season gave Chi-town a 3-0 lead.
"We take it day by day here," said García, "and today was a good one for us."
Chi-town is now 10-5.
