Toronto Downs San Francisco, 5-3
|
Toronto Blue Jays starter Pedro Martínez was in fine form against the San Francisco Meatballs at 420 Park, leading his team to a win, 5-3. Martínez went 8 innings to notch the win. He scattered 8 hits, walked 2, and struck out 9. His record improves to 4-0. The Blue Jays have hit the ground running, raising their record to 10-5. While it's still too soon to talk about Toronto hoisting their 2nd Polaris Classic trophy, fans are getting excited about their strong start.
Toronto used a well-timed hit by Edgar Ledesma to capture the win. The right fielder socked a 2-run double in the top of the sixth inning to put the Blue Jays ahead, 3-1. Though it was his only hit in 4 at-bats, it was important.
"Pedro -- his tempo and rhythm were good," said Blue Jays manager Dee Phillips. "He was the key to us winning."
