Pioneers Earn 2-1 Win Versus Blue Jays
|
Toronto got a valiant performance from pitcher Pedro Martínez, but it wasn't enough to beat the Redwood Pioneers. Redwood won the game, 2-1. Martínez threw 9.0 innings of 6-hit ball for the losing team. Redwood reliever Ernest Tate picked up the win to move to 5-2. Steve Carlton suffered the loss. Chandler Davis collected save number 18.
Redwood used the timely hitting of Steve Scott to seize the win. The second baseman stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the tenth inning to put the Pioneers on top, 2-1. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"Both teams played hard," said Redwood manager Carlos Lara.
The first-place Pioneers have a one-game lead in their division.
