Chi-town first baseman Willie McCovey helped his team beat the Harlem Hellions, 4-3. McCovey, who led the CL in slugging percentage with .583 in 1968, went 1 for 2 for the Coalition. Aaron White got the win, improving to 4-1. He pitched 8 innings, giving up 9 hits and 3 runs, while striking out 4 and walking 3. Juan Sánchez recorded his 24th save for Chi-town.
McCovey had an important at-bat with the bases loaded in the top of the eighth, when he hit a sacrifice fly. The Coalition went on to win.
"Ah, the sweet taste of victory," McCovey crowed after the game.
After today's action, Chi-town sits at 60-54, while Harlem falls to 51-63.
