Meatballs Snag 5-3 Win
The Philadelphia Athletics got a sterling performance from pitcher Bob Wiggins, but the San Francisco Meatballs still prevailed, 5-3. Wiggins threw 7.1 innings allowing 2 runs. Picking up the win was Steve D Barber. He went 7.1 innings, allowing 3 runs on 7 hits. The left--hander struck out 5 and walked 3. The save was credited to Armando Martínez, his 36th.

San Francisco used a timely hit from Larry Richardson to get the win. The pinch hitter stroked a 2-run double in the top of the eighth inning to put the Meatballs ahead, 5-3. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it made an impact.

"My job is to go out and play as hard as I can for the Meatballs," said Richardson.

The second-place Meatballs improved to 84-44.
