Mayberry Collects Cycle Saturday, June 10th , 1972 John Mayberry punished the Sunnydale Slayers today, leading the Raisin Growers to a 9-7 win. In doing so, Mayberry hit for the cycle, tagging the Slayers for 4 hits in 5 at-bats. A player hitting a single, a double, a triple and a home run in the same game is one of the more unusual feats in professional baseball and typically happens only a couple times per season. "Well, I didn't expect that to happen," the Fresno first baseman said after the game. "I got some great pitches and I hit their mistakes." Mayberry also had 6 runs batted in and 1 run scored in the game at Fresno Grounds. John Mayberry hit an RBI triple in the 1st, hit a GRAND SLAM off Jordan Tompkins in the 2nd, hit an RBI double in the 3rd, flied out in the 6th and singled in the 7th. Mayberry is batting .323 with 9 home runs and 35 RBIs this season. |
