Kurihara Hurls Shutout
Saturday, July 1st , 1972
The Regina Roughriders shut out the Mission Bay Mountain Ducks 4-0 today behind the strong pitching of Jou Kurihara. Kurihara surrendered only 1 hit in recording the complete-game victory, and struck out 11.

Following the last out, Kurihara appeared to celebrate a little too boisterously for Mission Bay manager Juan Valenzuela, who could be seen scolding the famously outspoken right-hander as the clubs left the field. Kurihara's own manager then intervened with some words for his counterpart.

The Mountain Ducks skipper would not comment on the exchange, but at the Roughriders press conference, Kurihara confirmed that it was regarding the celebration.

"He basically told me I was being a lousy winner," Kurihara said.

"And I told him he was being a lousy loser," Regina manager Enrique Ayala added.

Kurihara's record up to now is 4-and-1 with no saves and a 1.32 ERA. He has given up 18 hits in 41 innings with 47 strikeouts.
