Taniguchi Rips 3 HR
Sunday, August 6th , 1972
Tsukasa Taniguchi went on an explosive hitting spree against the Toronto Red Riders at Backlash Ballpark today, launching a trio of blasts to lead the Calgary Cannons to the 10-1 win.
The right fielder finished 3-for-5 with 3 runs scored and 4 RBI.
"It was just one of those days," Taniguchi said in a postgame interview. "I don't know how to explain it. I'm just putting a good swing on the ball."
Toronto skipper Lloyd Bell said Taniguchi was "locked-in."
"We made some pretty good pitches," he said. "Those first two homers were exactly where the pitcher wanted to put them. He's just hot right now -- you've just got to tip your hat to him."
Tsukasa Taniguchi struck out in the 1st, hit a solo-shot off Mike Caine in the 2nd, flied out in the 4th, hit a two-run home run off Don Wilson in the 6th and hit a solo-shot off Don Wilson in the 8th.
This year Taniguchi has hit 29 home runs and posted a .250 batting average.
