Thomas Goes Long 3 Times
Thursday, August 17th , 1972
The "hardest feat in sports" debate is a never-ending one with no correct answer, but hitting three home runs is certainly in the conversation. That's exactly what Dewitt Thomas did today at Field of the Monsters, going deep three times and carrying his team to victory, 25-7.

"It all came together. I was seeing the ball well and I got some good pitches to hit," Thomas said. "Good things happen, when that happens."

The Portland Pickles center fielder blistered the Pittsburgh Monsters for 3 hits, batted in 6 runs and scored 4 times.

"It ain't like we weren't trying," Pittsburgh manager Joe Schultz Jr said. "He was hot and really torched my boys today."

Dewitt Thomas flied out in the 1st, hit a GRAND SLAM off Glenn Middleton in the 2nd, struck out in the 4th, grounded out in the 4th, hit a solo-shot off Juan Negrón in the 6th, hit a solo-shot off Juan Negrón in the 8th and walked in the 9th.

Thomas is swinging at a .246 pace on the year with 14 home runs, 28 RBIs and 23 runs scored. He has played in 36 games.
