Hat Trick of Home Runs for Schaefer Sunday, August 6th , 1972 It was a good day for the Halifax Explosions and an exceptional one for Andre Schaefer. The 18-year-old center fielder sent three bombs out of the park to help the Explosions beat the Toledo Steelheads 10-8 at Steelheads Stadium. "When you're in the zone, the game really slows down," Schaefer said when asked about his performance later. "I couldn't even tell you what pitches were thrown. Today feels great, but it is a long season and tomorrow is another day." For the day, he scored 3 times, drove in 7 runs and smacked 3 hits in 4 at-bats. Andre Schaefer hit a two-run home run off Alfredo Torres in the 1st, hit a solo-shot off Alfredo Torres in the 3rd, struck out in the 5th, walked in the 7th and hit a GRAND SLAM off Ray Burris in the 9th. Schaefer is batting .222 this season in 58 games with 11 home runs, 33 RBIs and 22 runs scored. He has 46 hits in 207 at-bats. |
