Steelheads Get Zip in 4-0 Loss to Younger Wednesday, August 9th , 1972 The Toledo Steelheads had no answer today for Angus-Borden Purple Warriors pitcher Robin Younger. They failed to score a single run against him, losing 4-0. Toledo managed only 3 hits off Younger, who had 10 strikeouts. The extraordinarily popular Younger got a standing ovation from the hometown crowd as he left the field, the applause continuing until he returned from the dugout to tip his cap to the crowd. "Purple Warriors fans are the best fans, in my opinion," he said. "It's a great feeling to throw a shutout under any circumstances but to do it with the crowd behind you like that is just incredible." This season Younger has crafted a 12-3 mark with a 1.57 ERA in 183.1 innings. Opposing clubs are batting .171 against him and he has 224 strikeouts. |
