Super Season, Thompson Wins Most Valuable Player Award

Jason Thompson of the Indianapolis Indians had a fine season this year and today he accepted the Most Valuable Player Award for 1997.
The 27-year-old first baseman put up a .352 average and a .439 on-base percentage, piling up 115 hits, 31 doubles, 3 triples, 20 home runs, 70 RBIs and 62 runs scored.
He received 10 first place votes, as a unanimous winner. Donzell McDonald of the Wichita Aeros finished second in voting, while Jeremy Giambi of the Omaha Royals finished third.
