Martinez Bewilders Triplets in 6-0 Shutout
Sunday, August 31st , 1997
It wasn't easy but the Tucson Toros made it look that way.
Starter Jose Martinez shut out the Evansville Triplets despite having what he later called "sub-par" stuff, and the Tucson Toros cruised to victory, 6-0. Martinez allowed only 3 hits and rang up 5 strikeouts but insisted later that he did not deserve primary credit for the win.
"It didn't feel quite right today, but I got a lot of help to get through," he said. "I trusted my catcher and the guys behind me bailed me out more than once when I screwed up."
To date this season Martinez has compiled a 2-2 record with a 2.66 ERA in 7 starts.
