Omaha Wins Round 1 Crown
Monday, September 15th , 1997
The Omaha Royals were good enough to get past the Oklahoma City 89ers at Mile High Stadium today and secure the 5th championship in franchise history.

"When you wear Royals on your shirt, you're good at something," Omaha skipper John Lung told the press.

Royals left fielder Shane Monahan was named MVP of the series after he went .409 with 3 home runs and 6 runs batted in.

"It feels totally incredible," Monahan said. "I could live to 1,000 years old and I'd remember this moment."

The new champions capped off a great season with a 8-2 victory over the 89ers to win the Round 1 4-1.
