Best IL Reliever Named
Friday, September 26th , 1997
William Berry of the Jacksonville Bucks said he never set out to win the International League Reliever of the Year Award this season, but he'll certainly take it.

"1997 was a pretty good year for me, that much is obvious," he said. "This is icing on the cake."

The 30-year-old out of The United States fashioned a 0.75 ERA this season over 60.1 innings of work. He made 59 relief appearances and had 44 saves, 37 strikeouts, 22 walks and a record of 4 wins and 2 losses.

He received 10 first place votes, as a unanimous winner. Octavio Dotel of the Rochester Red Wings finished second in voting, while Jason Martino of the Rochester Red Wings finished third.
