EL Names Most Valuable Player Award Winner

His teammates, fans and peers all agree that Billy Lott is worthy of the 1997 Eastern League Most Valuable Player Award. Today, the voters made it official.

The Ft. Worth left fielder was a bonafide success as he racked up a .293 average, 115 hits, 8 doubles, 35 triples, 9 home runs, 56 RBIs, 74 runs, 50 walks and a .378 OBP.

He received 3 first place votes out of a possible 10. Eddie Priest of the Mission Hills Lawmen finished second in voting with 6 first place votes, while Bobby Hughes of the Tulsa Drillers finished third with 1 first place vote.

It was as good as money in the bank when Eddie Priest took the hill for Mission Hills. He paid his club back with interest this season with a superb 21-5 mark, collecting the Eastern League Pitcher of the Year Award for 1997.

The Lawmen star delighted the hometown fans with a fine 1.40 ERA and 103 strikeouts in 225.1 innings. Priest surrendered 155 hits and 26 walks and limited opposing batters to a .193 batting average.

He received 9 first place votes out of a possible 10. Mark Redman of the Tulsa Drillers finished second in voting with 1 first place vote, while Andres Lopez of the Tulsa Drillers finished third.
