Ryan Kohlmeier was dominant and cool under pressure this year, and his standout performance has earned the Michigan Battle Cats closer recognition as the 1998 Western Carolinas League Reliever of the Year Award.

"I was just doing my job, and my job is to get people out," said the 22-year-old out of Salina, Kansas.

The award winner made 55 relief appearances this year and had 20 saves. He fanned 17 batters in 68.2 innings, with 5 walks. He pitched to a record of 5 wins and 1 loss to go with his 0.79 ERA.

He received 5 first place votes out of a possible 6. Wayne Lee of the Greenwood Braves finished second in voting with 1 first place vote, while Tim Hamulack of the Gastonia Pirates finished third.
