The Houston Apollos knocked off the Gary SouthShore RailCats, 7-4, at Flames Ballpark. Brett Cox was a big reason Houston won. The left fielder went 3-5 with a home run and a double, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2. Frank Acosta got credit for the win, improving to 15-5. He allowed 2 runs on 9 hits in 7 innings. Josh Swartzmiller earned the save, his 19th.
Cox had a timely hit for Houston in the top of the sixth. With Gary SouthShore trailing 1-0, he turned a 2-0 fastball into a 2-run home run. It was his 6th home run of the season, making it 2-1, Houston.
"Anything I can do to help the team win," said Cox.
Houston goes to 64-47, Gary SouthShore to 48-63.
