Bombers Held in Check by Knights, Lose, 2-0
|
Justin Balman never let Newcastle get something going. The Essendon left-hander commanded his cutter in pitching the Knights to a 2-0 win. Balman, now 3-1, was the winner. In 6.2 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 3, walking 1, and allowing no runs. Collin Wilday picked up the save for Essendon, his 3rd of the year.
Newcastle had a runner on 1st in the top of the eighth. With one out, Darby Wellington came to bat, hoping to do some damage. Instead, he flied out. The score remained 2-0, Essendon. The Bombers saw their comeback bid fail.
Essendon is now 9-8.
