Bombers Defeat Raiders, 4-3
|
The Canberra Raiders and Newcastle Bombers provided some drama for the home crowd.
Canberra pitcher Matt Melsome had a good game in a losing cause. His team fell, 4-3, to Newcastle at Canberra Stadium. Melsome threw 5.1 innings of 4-hit ball. Bradford Thomson got the save, the 12th for him this season.
Newcastle needed the clutch hitting of Frank Elmar to notch the win. The first baseman hammered a solo home run in the top of the tenth inning to put the Bombers on top, 4-3. For the game, Elmar had 1 home run and 1 single in 5 at-bats.
"Good pitching, clutch hitting," said Newcastle skipper Silvio Dante. "I can't complain."
Newcastle has a 3-game win streak, while Canberra has lost 3 in a row.
