Lees Hits 2 home runs in Blues Win
|
Baseball fans saw a good contest between the Carlton Blues and Melbourne Demons.
The 3-1 Carlton win over Melbourne was due in large part to Mick Lees. The Blues second baseman was 2 for 3 with 2 home runs and a walk, while adding 3 RBI and scoring twice. The winning pitcher was Kaleb Heidke. He's now 14-2. He went 8 innings, allowing 1 run on 4 hits for the Blues. Gerald Cardell converted his 31st save in 35 tries.
In the top of the first of a scoreless game, Lees hit a 2-run home run to put his team ahead.
"We'll put that win in the can," said Lees, "and go after the next one."
Carlton, at 69-45, is 4½ games up in the National League.
