Demons Double Up Newcastle, 4-2
|
The Newcastle Bombers got a superb performance from pitcher Ray Strachan, but the Melbourne Demons still won the game, 4-2. Strachan threw 6.0 innings of 5-hit ball. Melbourne reliever Kylan Anlezark picked up the win, upping his record to 4-2. Benny Scanlan shouldered the loss. Norm Riethmuller, credited with the save, is now 27 for 30 in save opportunities.
Had Micah Plumtree not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 3rd, Plumtree hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 3-2, in favor of the Demons.
"I felt we were ready to go," said Melbourne manager Sean Morgan. "Our pregame was pretty good."
The Demons sport a record of 50-72.
