Royals Come Back Late to Clip Orioles
|
The Kansas City Royals topped the Baltimore Orioles by the score of 5-2, with the biggest share of the credit going to right fielder Whit Merrifield. Merrifield was 3 for 4 with 2 home runs and was hit by a pitch for the Royals on the day. Kansas City reliever Richard Lovelady got the win, raising his record to 3-0. Richard Bleier was tagged with the loss. Ian Kennedy earned the save for Kansas City, his 8th of the year.
The most critical at-bat came in the top of the ninth inning. With two out, Adalberto Mondesi hit a 1-1 fastball from Miguel Castro for a 2-run single. It put Kansas City in front, 4-2.
"I thought we played a nice game," Mondesi told the Kansas City Today. "Good pitching, timely hitting, it was all there."
Kansas City goes to 19-10.
