Royals Stun Red Sox, 7-5
|
Boston shortstop Xander Bogaerts had a good game, even if his team did not. The Red Sox dropped a 7-5 decision to Kansas City at Fenway Park. Bogaerts was 2-3 with a home run, a double, and a walk, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 3. The winner was Kansas City reliever Scott Barlow, now 3-0. The loser was Tanner Houck. Ian Kennedy, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 16th save.
Kansas City used the clutch hitting of Nicky Lopez to capture the win. The second baseman drilled a run-scoring double in the top of the eighth inning to give the Royals the lead, 5-4. For the game, Lopez had 1 single and 1 double in 3 at-bats.
"Our guys are never satisfied," said Kansas City manager Andy McCullough.
The American League Central Division-leading Royals have a record of 37-20.
