Blue Jays Win, 7-5
|
The Baltimore Orioles got a sterling performance from pitcher Nick Pivetta, but the Toronto Blue Jays still prevailed, 7-5. Pivetta threw 5 innings allowing 2 runs. Julian Merryweather, now 3-1, was credited with the win. He allowed no runs on no hits, while striking out 3 and walking 0. The third-place Blue Jays are 29-31.
Toronto used the timely hitting of Joe Panik to seize the win. The shortstop stroked a 2-run single in the top of the seventh inning to put the Blue Jays on top, 5-4. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"I'm just happy to help the team win," Panik told the Toronto Citizen.
