Fine Effort by McCutchen Not Enough in 12-6 Phillies Loss
|
Philadelphia left fielder Andrew McCutchen pounded Washington Nationals pitchers at Citizens Bank Park, but it was not enough to keep the Phillies from falling, 12-6. McCutchen hit 2 home runs. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice. Washington has a 4-game win streak, while Philadelphia has lost 3 in a row.
Washington used the timely hitting of Carter Kieboom to seize the win. The third baseman stroked a 2-run single in the top of the seventh inning to put the Nationals on top, 8-5. It was his only hit in 2 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"I felt good up there," said Kieboom. "I saw the ball well."
