Nationals Upend Mets, 4-3
|
With third baseman Howie Kendrick leading the charge, the Washington Nationals defeated the New York Mets, 4-3, at Citi Field. Kendrick, who is a two-time All-Star, went 2-3 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. Patrick Corbin got credit for the win, improving to 10-5. He allowed 3 runs on 9 hits in 6.2 innings. Washington raised its record to 72-71 with the win.
Washington used the bat of Eric Thames to capture the win. The first baseman jacked a 2-run home run in the top of the third inning to put the Nationals ahead, 2-0. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a dandy.
"Honestly, I'm not frustrated," said New York manager Tim Britton. "The effort was great."
