The Pittsburgh Pirates had to overcome a fine performance from Atlanta pitcher Mike Soroka to grab a 3-2 win at PNC Park. Soroka allowed 2 runs over 7 innings. Pittsburgh pitcher Derek Holland got the win, upping his record to 9-7. Grant Dayton got the loss. Nick Burdi converted his 20th save in 24 tries.

Daulton Varsho contributed a productive at-bat in the bottom of the eighth. With a runner on 1st, he hit a single. It was one at-bat that helped Pittsburgh get the win.

"I'm proud of the way we took care of business and got the 'W' today," Varsho told the Pittsburgh Herald. "Whatever it takes."

Pittsburgh, at 70-73, holds down second place in the National League Central Division.
