Athletics Come Up Short at Seattle, 9-8
|
Oakland got a terrific game from catcher Sean Murphy. It wasn't enough, though, to prevent the team from falling to Seattle, 9-8. Murphy went 2 for 2 with a home run and 2 walks, while scoring 3 times. The winning pitcher was Yohan Ramirez. He tossed 92 pitches over 5 innings, allowing 2 runs on 4 hits. The Mariners go to 54-94 with the win.
Daniel Vogelbach tagged a home run off Drew Smyly in the bottom of the first. His 3-run blast put the Mariners on top, 3-0. In all, Vogelbach had 1 single in addition to the home run, while going 2 for 3.
"Winning is hard sometimes," said Mariners manager Raj Patel. "This one was nice to get."
