Cubs Clip Pirates, 8-7
|
The home team gave their fans plenty to cheer about, with a thrilling walk-off win.
A good performance from second baseman Jonathan Villar helped the Chicago Cubs defeat the Pittsburgh Pirates, 8-7. Villar went 4 for 5 with a home run, 3 singles, and a walk, while scoring 4 times and driving in 3 for the Cubs. The 4th-place Cubs are now 73-79, the Pirates 75-75.
The clutch at-bat in the bottom of the ninth belonged to Villar. Facing Kyle Crick with the bases loaded, the Chicago second baseman had a run-scoring walk. Game over, walk-off style!
"It was a nice win for our side today," said Cubs manager Michael Beller. "Not perfect, but we'll take it."
