Dreadful Season Sees Playoff Hopes Dashed for Boston Thursday, September 3rd, 2020 Matt Barnes said it's going to be "an awfully long offseason" for the Boston Red Sox after they missed the Major League Baseball playoffs. The club came close, but ultimately ran out of games to secure a postseason spot and were eliminated from contention today. The Red Sox have missed the playoffs 118 times in their 138 years as a Major League Baseball franchise. This playoff miss is the club's 2nd in a row, with their last postseason appearance coming in 2017. In the last 10 seasons, the Red Sox have missed the playoffs 7 times.
