Dombkowski Scores AZL Best Hurler Honors

A sparkling 4-0 mark for the year just about says it all -- that's what Nick Dombkowski of the Chicago A (AZL) White Sox put up this season. That's why the Arizona Rookie League rated him the #1 hurler in the league and named him the 2020 Outstanding Pitcher Award winner.

He held opposing clubs to a .195 batting average and compiled a 2.11 ERA. Dombkowski stood out with 58 strikeouts while giving up 33 hits and 14 walks in 47 innings.

He received 11 first place votes out of a possible 21. Ryan Walker of the San Francisco (AZL) Giants Black finished second in voting with 5 first place votes, while Caden Lemons of the Milwaukee (AZL) Brewers Gold finished third with 5 first place votes.

CD Pelham said he thinks hitters often underestimate him, as he's only 25 years old.

But he'll certainly be getting a lot more respect now, as the Chicago N (AZL) Cubs Blue rising star has won the Arizona Rookie League Reliever of the Year for 2020.

He captured the award on the strength of his 0.00 ERA over 20.2 innings. He also had 17 saves in 25 relief appearances, 36 strikeouts and only 11 walks.

He received 13 first place votes out of a possible 21. Thomas Ponticelli of the Cleveland (AZL) Indians Red finished second in voting with 7 first place votes, while Riley McCauley of the Chicago N (AZL) Cubs Red finished third with 1 first place vote.
