South Atlantic League Names Gibson Best Batter
Monday, September 4th , 2034
No single hit brought Chris Gibson Player of the Week honors -- the Delmarva Shorebirds center fielder corralled the award with a consistent approach in every at-bat.
"Hitting is all about discipline," said Gibson. "When you lose focus, start to lunge at the ball and swing too aggressively... swinging at a lot of bad pitches... that's when your average starts to drop and you wind up fighting for playing time. You're most successful when you concentrate on the ball and make 'em throw strikes."
Concentrate he did. Gibson stroked 12 hits in 26 at-bats while cranking out 2 home runs, 12 RBIs and 8 runs scored.
This season Gibson has banged out 135 hits in 393 at-bats for a .344 average with 5 home runs. He is getting on base at a .400 pace and his totals also include 46 RBIs and 65 runs scored.
