Nationals Topple Mets, 4-2
|
Washington rode a fine outing from starter Duane Lawson to victory over the New York (N) Mets at Nationals Park. The final score was 4-2. Lawson, now 4-2, was the winner. In 7 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 7, walking 1, and allowing 2 runs. The save went to J.J. Bailey, number 11 for him.
Had Rob Blanchard not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 3rd, Blanchard hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 3-2, in favor of the Nationals.
"Duane was throwing free and easy," said Washington manager .
With the win, Washington boosts its record to 21-10.
