Minnesota got a valiant performance from pitcher Chad Foster, but it wasn't enough to beat the Oakland Athletics. Oakland won the game, 5-3. Foster threw 7.0 innings of 2-hit ball for the losing team. The winner in relief was José López. He is now 3-1. The right-hander allowed no runs on 2 hits in 1.2 innings. Oakland now sits in third place in the American League Western Division at 19-18.
In the bottom of the eighth, Oakland third baseman Héctor González gave his team the lead. With two out and runners on 2nd and 3rd, The Comet hit his 7th home run of the year. Minnesota pitcher Mel Tseng surrendered it. With that, the Athletics jumped in front, 5-3.
"We cashed in when we had the chance," said Oakland manager David Wise.
