Clutch Hitting Delivers Win for Tigers
The Tigers grabbed a win, 4-2, at Busch Stadium, overcoming a fine effort from St. Louis pitcher Juan Maldonado. Maldonado went 7 innings and allowed 2 runs. Detroit reliever Orlando Vargas picked up the win, raising his record to 3-1. Mario Salazar was tagged with the loss. The first-place Tigers have a record of 29-21.

Detroit used the clutch hitting of Joaquín Medina to capture the win. The second baseman drilled a 2-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Tigers ahead, 4-2. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a big one.

"We played a good game and came out on top," said Medina.
