The Cincinnati Reds and Chicago (N) Cubs provided some drama for the home crowd.

Chicago (N) Cubs starter Dave Ward was in fine form as he helped his team beat the Cincinnati Reds, 1-0. The winning pitcher was Ward, now 3-3. He tossed 6 innings of 3-hit ball, while walking 1 and fanning 8.

Chicago (N) took the lead in the bottom of the sixth. With two out and a runner on 2nd, Mauro Martínez stroked a run-scoring double to make it 1-0, Cubs.

"I believe in our guys," said Chicago (N) skipper Jimmy W. "I like the energy they're playing with."

The Cubs are now 35-40, while the Reds fall to 29-46.
