Astros Lose By a Run at Philadelphia, 4-3
|
The Philadelphia Phillies did just enough to sneak past the Houston Astros, 4-3, at Citizens Bank Park. Philadelphia pitcher Tony Brown, in particular, had a standout performance. Brown went 6 innings to notch the win. He scattered 5 hits, walked 5, and struck out 5. His record improves to 6-6. Picking up the save was Jorge Trevino, his 27th.
The Phillies got an important contribution from catcher Sam Bowman, who in the bottom of the fourth knocked a 0-2 forkball into left for a 2-run double. It was his 17th double of the season and put the Phillies ahead, 3-1.
"I had a good game," said Bowman. "Winning makes it even better."
The Phillies go to 45-43, putting them third in the National League Eastern Division.
