Philadelphia Stymied by Cleveland, 2-1
|
Both teams had their chances, but the Cleveland Guardians eventually prevailed.
In a tight contest at Progressive Field, the Cleveland Guardians edged the Philadelphia Phillies by the score of 2-1. Cleveland first baseman Juan Morales, who blasted 2 home runs, was a key contributor. Cleveland starter Alfredo Gutiérrez was credited with the win after throwing 96 pitches over 5 innings. His record now stands at 9-10. Raúl Llanet earned his 40th save in 42 tries.
The game turned with one out in the bottom of the fourth when Morales hit a solo home run. It propelled the Guardians into the lead, 2-1.
"We'll enjoy this win for now, but it's just one," Morales told local reporters. "We've got to keep it going."
The second-place Guardians sport a record of 72-69.
