Red Sox Pull Even With 1-0 Victory
Boston Red Sox starter Shawn Garner was in a rhythm all game. He led his team to a win over the Cincinnati Reds, 1-0. Jim Cox was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 39 of 46 save opportunities. With the win, Boston goes to 71-71, while the Reds fall to 55-87.

The Reds had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Red Sox going into the bottom of the fourth inning. That changed quickly when the 25-year old right fielder Erwin Broomhead came to the plate. Broomhead hit a solo home run on a first pitch sinker from Cincinnati hurler David Suárez. It was Broomhead's 4th home run of the year.

"The old adage is true," said Broomhead. "Good pitching stops good hitting."
