Tampa Bay got a valiant performance from pitcher José Martínez, but it wasn't enough to beat the Kansas City Royals. Kansas City won the game, 3-2. Martínez threw 7.0 innings of 6-hit ball for the losing team. Andy McClendon sewed up the save, his 45th. With the win, Kansas City upped its record to 86-70.
