Malachi Witherspoon Will Miss 5 Months

Las Vegas reliever Malachi Witherspoon suffered a season-ending injury throwing a pitch in today's game against the Isotopes. According to club doctors Witherspoon has shoulder inflammation. Although Witherspoon has declined to comment, sources close to the player have stated that he is "devastated" that he will miss the playoffs.
To date this year, he has registered no saves, 7 wins and 1 loss with a 4.47 ERA. Witherspoon has made 11 relief appearances, worked a total of 54.1 innings and surrendered 57 hits. He has fanned 56, issued 27 free passes and held opposing clubs to a .270 batting average.
