Yankees Top Guardians, 8-5
|
The New York Yankees downed the Cleveland Guardians, 8-5, in 10 innings. Barry Bonds led the way, going 2-for-4 for New York. New York reliever Robb Nen got the win, raising his record to 5-2. Livan Hernandez was tagged with the loss. New York is now 78-56, Cleveland 52-82.
The decisive blow was delivered by Corey Koskie in the bottom of the tenth when he hit a 3-run home run off 29-year old right-handed pitcher Livan Hernandez to win the game for New York. The home crowd went nuts.
"We fed off the energy of the crowd at the end," Bonds said.
