Spiders Deal Copperheads 5-3 Defeat
|
The Cleveland Spiders overcame a good performance by Cumberland right fielder Fraser Wearne to knock off Cumberland, 5-3, at John Lee Pettimore Field. Wearne was 2 for 4 with 2 home runs and a walk, while adding 3 RBI and scoring twice. The winner in relief was Chang-hyun So. He is now 3-3. The left-hander allowed 1 run on 3 hits in 2 innings. Vicente Maldonado got the save, his 32nd in 36 chances.
It could have been a different outcome for Cleveland, had it not been for James Carson, the 25-year old left fielder . Carson contributed a 2-run home run in the top of the first inning to put Cleveland up, 2-0.
"The hot tub feels extra good after a solid win," said Carson.
The win puts Cleveland at 79-78 this season.
