Cardinals Roll to 9-1 Win Over Giants
|
Benefiting from Alec Burleson's productive game, the St. Louis Cardinals downed the San Francisco Giants, 9-1. Burleson was 3-5 with a home run and a double. He drove in 4 runs and scored once for the Cardinals. The winner was Frankie Montas, who threw 94 pitches over 6.1 innings. The right-hander was charged with no runs on 4 hits. St. Louis currently is in first place in the National League Central Division at 51-37.
With St. Louis leading 2-0 in the top of the first, Burleson hit a fastball from Brandon Woodruff for a 2-run home run. It was his 6th home run of the season and put the Cardinals ahead, 4-0.
Cardinals manager Johnny Rocha had nothing but praise for his players after an impressive win, calling the result one of the team's best performances of the season. "Everything just came together on our end," he said. "I didn't need to do too much."
