Blue Pirates Upend Marlins, 7-1
|
The Miami Marlins and Toronto Blue Pirates were greeted by an enthusiastic crowd.
Miami had no answer for Toronto Blue Pirates starter Joe Ross, who flummoxed Marlins hitters as the Blue Pirates cruised to victory, 7-1. Ross went 6 innings to notch the win. He scattered 4 hits, walked 3, and struck out 8. His record improves to 1-0. The save went to Ryan Yarbrough, his 2nd this season.
Toronto used a well-timed hit by Yandy Diaz to capture the win. The first baseman socked a 2-run double in the top of the fifth inning to put the Blue Pirates ahead, 3-1. Though it was his only hit in 5 at-bats, it was important.
"I thought we played a nice game," Diaz told the Toronto Daily. "Good pitching, timely hitting, it was all there."
The win brings the Blue Pirates to 4-7, an awful start for a team that made the playoffs just last season.
