Mets Edge Past Reds, 6-5
|
The Cincinnati Reds got a superb performance from second baseman Brendan Rodgers. Still, it wasn't enough to beat New York. The Mets won the game, 6-5. Rodgers hit 2 home runs. New York reliever Chris Martin picked up the win, while Kirby Snead took the loss for Cincinnati. Robert Suarez earned the save for New York, his 4th of the year.
New York used a timely hit from Cody Bellinger to get the win. The right fielder stroked a 2-run double in the top of the ninth inning to put the Mets ahead, 6-5. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it made an impact.
"I like the roll we're on," said New York manager Jeff LeRoux.
The Reds, now 8-19, continue their sluggish start.
